empressissi™ is pleased to offer this unique trench style wrist watch from WW1 period in solid silver by the fine Swiss maker Longines featuring a most likely conversion from a pocket watch with fixed lugs and a fine manual wind movement.
The watch houses an early hi grade caliber with 15 jewels in gilt finish which was probably made for the Tsarist, pre-revolution Russian market given the 84 silver hallmark on the back. This is an early movement adapted from pocket watches and sets with a lever. In order to set the watch, you need to press the crown. The top bezel will pop on its hinge. You then pull the lever which acts like a clutch between winding and setting and then you can set the watch to the correct time. The watch is cased in a 0.875 continental purity silver which translates to "84", a common Eastern European standard and is properly marked for EFCO (Longines) on both the inner dust cover and the back cover. It has swiveling fixed lugs which were possibly added in the factory. Original onion crown and mint mineral crystal.
The dial is factory original, elegant enamel with some hairlines but no damage with an aged set of hands.
This historic Longines watch is large and measures 36mm side to side (excluding crown) and 36mm from top lug to bottom lug.
Attached to this watch is a regular length brand new, 12mm wide, slim genuine leather band in black tone with unsigned anti-allergic buckle in a matching tone.
