1880s Swiss Large English Market .935 Silver Pocket Watch
empressissi™ is pleased to offer this original anonymous Swiss maker pocket watch, designed for the English market. The Swiss, often at this period with inferior products vs the English makers, were competing with similar known characteristics such as Large Roman dial, gilt plates, heavy high grade silver cases and KWKS (Key Wind-Key set) of both the spring on the back and the hands in the front, designed the same way high grade Fusee watches were made in England.
This watch houses a large key set/key wind KWKS gilt caliber in overall excellent condition and running properly which appears to be a classic ebauche very similar to Waltham designs of the same era. What is unique about this watch is that it winds from the back and sets from the front, with the same key. The movement is cased in a large and heavy, thick gauge 0.935 silver with beautiful turned engine decorations, mint crystal and possibly a replacement bow. It has Swiss hallmarks. The case also features an internal dust cover made of silver. All hinges are tight and secure and this watch is supplied with a correct new key.
The dial is a factory original enamel white with most elegant Roman numerals and an original set of hands.
This interesting pocket watch measures 56mm side to side (excluding crown).
