empressissi™ is pleased to offer this antique, all original and in excellent condition 18K solid yellow gold English Fusee pocket watch from the mid 19th century, still working well and keeping good time by the distinguished London maker E. D. Johnson.
This watch is part of a large and mostly impressive, museum level collection of a retired IAF pilot that we are delighted to offer for sale in our website. In 2016 we serviced a small portion of his collection that was later auctioned at Christie's Geneve. We are now pleased to offer the substantial part of the collection for sale; these include several interesting gold English pocket watches, among them are some other fusee pocket watches and other Swiss and American pocket watches.
The watch houses a fine key wind/key set fusee gilt caliber in overall excellent condition and running properly, keeping good time. The unique thing about this English watch is that it is both wound and set from the back through a dust cover, a setting normally seen in Swiss pocket watches. The watch is supplied with a key. The movement is covered by a classic dustcover which has a lovely birthday inscription for 1867. It is cased in a heavy all 18K solid gold open face case hallmarked for London 1866 and 18K, in great shape with lose bow and original mineral crystal in great condition. All hinges are tight and secure and the net weight of the gold content in this case is 37 grams. The case features turned engine decorations on the back.
The dial is a factory original enamel dial with two sunken areas for the logo and the sub sceonds and is in overall excellent condition with original set of hands.
This one of a kind English fusee pocket watch measures 47mm side to side (excluding crown).
