1874 ELGIN Rare g. 37 Coin Silver 14s Pocket Watch
empressissi™ is pleased to offer this pretty uncommon pocket watch by Elgin, in a setting that reminds classic English made pocket watches. Only 3,000 pieces of this particular grade 37 were made during three years of production, possibly some were shipped to the UK as export. This is a classic and very early American made movement that will surely add character to any pocket watch collection. In excellent working order and keeping good time.
The watch houses an early grade 37 Keywind/Key set movement in 14 size in gilt finish, which is very similar to same era English made movements, set and wound from the back. It is cased in a coin (0/800) silver American case with good bow, near mint mineral crystal and overall good condition, with some loss to the finish on the back for obvious age related reasons, a couple of dings here and there but nothing detracting. It comes with a chain and a key.
The dial is a factory original in classic Roman numeral style with no evident damage and has an original set of slim elegant hands.
This fantastic American pocket watch measures 50mm side to side (excluding crown), The case alone weighs 60g without the crystal, crown and movement.
