empressissi™ is pleased to offer this all original and in excellent condition, large, heavy and impressive 18K solid rose gold G.F. Garrett, Werneth Oldham pocket watch from 1874.
This watch is part of a large and mostly impressive, museum level collection of a retired IAF pilot that we are delighted to offer for sale in our website. In 2016 we serviced a small portion of his collection that was later auctioned at Christie's Geneve. We are now pleased to offer the substantial part of the collection for sale; these include a large selection of solid gold pocket watches - repeaters, chronographs, Hunter-cases (Savonettes) and open faces, most complex and interesting antique Swiss and American pocket watches, to name a few.
The watch houses a large classic G.F. Garrett English pinset gilt caliber in overall excellent condition and running properly. This is not a chronograph in the classic definition of independent time measurement but rather a stop watch which functions through a sliding lever outside the case and stop/starts the whole movement. The movement is cased in a large and heavy all 18K solid gold case hallmarked for London 1874 and 18K, and the case is also marked by AW which means it was made by Arthur Wigley who later joined with Dennison to form the famous Dennison Watch cases factory. The crown, bow and mineral crystal are in good condition as well. The case has an internal dust cover made of 18K gold. All hinges are tight and secure and the net weight of the gold content in this case is 55 grams. This watch is supplied with a key.
The dial is a factory original enamel off white - even light coffe tone in fantastic condition with recessed center, featuring Roman numerals and seconds track with original set of hand decorated hands.
This interesting and unique solid gold pocket watch measures 53,5mm side to side (excluding crown).
