empressissi™ is pleased to offer a sought-after American made wrist watch for men with an experimental 760 full rotor and slim automatic caliber. One objection to Swiss self-winding watches of the time was that they were often too thick, largely because the design stacked the automatic portion on top of the movement. Elgin's solution to this was to move the self-winding mechanism down the same level as the time portion. To accomplish this, they moved the center wheel off center, and drove the hands via a gear on the dial side which meshed with the minute wheel, which in turn drove the hour wheel and a cannon pinion mounted on a hollow center post. This fantastic all original American made LORD ELGIN dress watch for men from the early 60s is ready to wear!
The watch houses a strong experimental 760 automatic full rotor caliber, which is adjusted to six positions and set with 30 jewels, which is a non-certified chronometer; it is cased in a signed 10K gold filled monoblock case in yellow tone in great condition with just a few dents on the back, with original acrylic crystal and good signed crown.
The dial is factory original in elegant circular-brushed silver tone with very few blemishes and has applied solid gold markers and original set of hands.
This Lord Elgin watch measures 29mm side to side (excluding crown) and 37mm from top lug to bottom lug and is relatively modest in size even for vintage watches.
Attached to this watch is a brand new, quality padded genuine leather band in brown tone, 16mm wide, with anti-allergic buckle in matching tone.
Vintage watches are smaller than today's standards; To avoid the inconvenience of returns merely due to wrong size expectations, Please study the listed sizes and keep in mind that in most cases, vintage watches will be smaller than today's standards and are unlikely to fit a large wrist.
